Partnerships:
o Who Can Fedcap Partner with that have expertise in the identified training/employment sectors?
A good first step would be to maximize partnering with other divisions with the relevant expertise at Fedcap. I think utilizing the Career Design School trainings in security, culinary and maintenance would be a great first step. I think would be a great opportunity to build on internal expertise and expose Fedcap’s capacity to a funder (HRA) who is not familiar with this division. This could lead to other HRA opportunities which could benefit CDS as well as ensure that we have the expertise need to provide a quality training.
o Who Can Fedcap Partner with to Provide Financial Literacy to our participants.
We could partner with TD Bank on financial literacy. They have a specific program focused on providing financial literacy as a way to give back to the community. They can be a good partner as they have a lot of locations around the NYC and are rapidly expanding and flexible to modifying the curriculum of their presentations for each organization.
Program Design:
o (Career Compass) Develop a comprehensive assessment that will address the participants Needs, Barriers, Employment & Educational Goals & Sector Interests which will inform the creation of a Service Plan.
I think it would be beneficial to have the survey computerized. This would enable us to run data as well as see trends on each of these sections. A good starting point can be to collect assessments from existing Fedcap programs and see if there are best practices and effective questions that could be used here.
o Ideas for a Dynamic Orientation which will establish a culture where success is possible and will attract participants to our program
A key aspect to include in orientation might information on what differentiates Fedcap from other providers. Since most providers tend to have an instructor verbally providing all the information it might be a good idea to change the format. It might work well to develop a video and show it during orientation with some brief information about Fedcap as operator of this program, what makes us different and have a few accounts from participants who have had a good experience and graduated from the program.
o What services should we offer to individuals with Criminal Backgrounds (Court Involvement)
A think we should offer workshops on how to talk about your criminal background. With the passage of the “Fair Chance Act”, it would be useful to educate participants about when they can be asked about criminal backgrounds so they don’t disclose information prematurely in the interview process or share more information than they need to.
