Partnerships
Who Can Fedcap Partner with that have expertise in the identified training/employment sectors?
The New York Labor Market Information Services. I had the opportunity to work with them at my last job and they played a big role in our determining our sector based training program. The New York Labor Market Information Services takes labor market and economic information and makes it accessible for use by public workforce systems. I think Fedcap would benefit tremendously in working with them especially considering the rate at which our organization is growing. We always talk about staying relevant and ahead of the curve and I think a partnership with them could help take Fedcap to that next level.
Who Can Fedcap Partner with to Provide Financial Literacy to our participants?
I was fortunate to assist in an RFP recently and was able to recruit The Financial Clinic as a partner to provide Financial Literacy Services should we win this. The Financial Clinic’s mission is to build working poor families’ and individuals’ financial security by addressing their immediate financial challenges and helping them set long-term goals to achieve financial mobility. They accomplish their mission through three areas of work:
• financial development, education, and coaching programs and services for individuals
• consulting services that build capacity at organizations working with underserved populations
• research, advocacy, and policy reforms that produce wider systemic change
Having had the opportunity to work with them on some pilot initiatives it was made clear that they are a leading and innovative provider of Financial Literacy with strong outcomes.
Program Design
(Career Compass) Develop a comprehensive assessment that will address the participants Needs, Barriers, Employment & Educational Goals & Sector Interests which will inform the creation of a Service Plan.
We currently do this in WeCARE and have a strong assessment model which addresses participants Barriers, Employment & Education Goals & Sector Interest which serves as a road map to successfully attaining employment. Collaborating with WeCARE would be beneficial and luckily that’s already happening.
Ideas for a Dynamic Orientation which will establish a culture where success is possible and will attract participants to our program
I think this is an area where we should explore how all programs do this and look at engagement rates in different program. Engagement rates tell a big story. High engagement rates mean individuals are sold on the program. I think could also be really beneficial to research outside programs that also have really successful recruitment and enrollment along with strong outcomes. Also I think it could be beneficial to do surveys with current Fedcap program participants to find out what attracts them and keeps them engaged. Anonymous surveys and focus groups are a good way to do this.
What services should we offer to individuals with Criminal Backgrounds? (Court Involvement)
Education and opportunity is key with this population. I love the idea of fellowship programs which I think can be extremely beneficial for this population in transitioning back into the workforce. There’s a great organization called Drive Change who really has the right idea and is doing this well. Drive Changes mission is centered around using the food truck workplace to run a yearlong Fellowship to broaden access for young people (ages 17-25) returning home from adult jail/prison so they can obtain preferential employment and educational opportunities. Their model is innovative and has worked.
